Upon receiving the invitation to attend the international conference on climate, Iraq’s Environment Minister calls for a joint campaign, along with the Iraqi Institute for Dialogue and Baghdad’s University Political Science college to raise awareness about the need for optimal water management

Iraq’s Environment Minister, Mr Nazar Mohamad Saeed, calls for starting up a joint awareness campaign pertaining to the optimal management in Iraq and the ways to protect water resources from pollution.

This call came during a meeting between his excellency and the organizing committee for the International Conference on Climate which is held by the Iraqi Institute for Dialogue and Baghdad’s University College of Political Science in early November 2023.

The organizing committee reviewed the conference goals and essential issues it will cover, pointing out that Iraq is now ranked the fifth most vulnerable country to climate change, which makes it imperative to work on addressing the risk and implementing urgent measures to keep up with the impacts of climate change.

The two sides have discussed the conference preparations which is arguably the most important conference to be held in Iraq and will be attended by 7 leaders and heads of state along with the institutes and organizations concerned with climate change.

Both sides agreed that Iraq needs a “revolutionary media campaign” to raise awareness about climate and water scarcity, confirming the need to set up a joint awareness campaign regarding optimal water management and the ways to prevent water pollution.

The meeting was attended by the Minister’s Deputy, Mr Jassim Al-Falahy and the head of the urban environment directorate, Mr Muthana Salomie, and the manager of the climate change directorate, Mr Yusuf Mouaied.
