His Excellency President of the Republic, Dr Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, Hosts the Preparatory Commission for the Third International Conference (Iraq and Climate Change… Implications for Security and Development)

His Excellency The President of the Republic, Dr Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received the Preparatory Commission for the Third International Conference (Iraq and Climate Change… Implications for Security and Development) at the Baghdad Palace on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. The delegation included the Director of the Iraqi Institute for Dialogue, Dr Abbas Al-Amiri, and the Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad, Dr Adel Al-Budaiwi.
Mr President emphasised the need for effective implementation of conference decisions, highlighting the significance of Iraq adopting recommendations at the Climate Conference (COP28) in the United Arab Emirates at the end of this year.
His Excellency, the President of the Republic, emphasised the significance of the participation of specialised personalities and the invitation of well-known international centres to contribute to the conference’s work, as well as those with extensive expertise in climate, environment, and water.
Members of the delegation, for their part, emphasised that Iraq is among the countries most at risk from climate change, noting that the conference is an effort to mitigate the risks associated with climate change. This meeting aims to discuss preparations for the conference “Iraq and Climate Change: Implications for Security and Development,” which will be held in early November by the College of Political Science, the Iraqi Institute for Dialogue, and the Islamabad Institute of Policy Research.
Dr Adel Al-Budaiwi indicated that the conference seeks to maximise its benefits by discussing its objectives and axes, including the first axis, climate change. Impacts and responses, the second axis is sustainable development and response to the effects of climate change on security, and the third axis, Iraq, climate change and risk management.
The third international conference is set to take place on November 1, 2, 2023.
