Text of the speech of His Excellency the President of the Republic at the sixth Baghdad International Dialog Conference

"In the name of God, the Merciful, the Merciful

Ladies and Gentlemen, Distinguished Attendees

peace upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings

I salute you and your efforts to hold this conference on promoting the values of dialog and working for partnerships in creating and developing a regional and international environment supportive of dialog and good understanding among countries.

Perhaps the most important and practical understanding is one based on a genuine belief in dialog, diversity and difference, which is then an understanding that is strengthened whenever it is based on the principles of common interests and is based on respect for the independence and sovereignty of States and societies.

The activity of research centers and civil institutions related to dialog and understanding is an important activity that enhances the work of governments in order to develop the values of coexistence, as it is a supportive activity that provides ideas and perceptions to decision-makers and helps in decision-making and in establishing an appropriate atmosphere for good understanding and coexistence.

It is no secret to everyone that the Iraqi policy pursued and developed by various governments after the fall of the dictatorship is a policy based on a basic principle in which Iraq is always an actor for understanding and regional coexistence and helps to create environments that support dialog and respect for diversity and differences, and therefore Iraq has worked to be a platform for aggression against any regional party and is an effective regional factor for constructive cooperation and support the will for dialog and the values of understanding between different countries.

And from these general principles adopted by the Iraqi governments, we can confirm Iraq's endeavor and keenness and its role in creating a suitable and supportive atmosphere for dialog between the two neighboring countries, Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In fact, our effort would not have borne fruit had it not been for the constructive will and cooperation we have seen from the masters in the governments of the two neighboring countries.

Today, our region seems most in need of promoting the principles of constructive and productive dialog.

The interests of peoples and States are to develop the rules of understanding, to establish the principles of dialog and to look to the future responsibly.

Our interest as a region is that we all cooperate in order to create an emerging, cooperative and integrated regional environment.

Recent decades have been a wasted time, during which much of the wealth and opportunity that could have uplifted the region, strengthened partnerships and strengthened cooperation have been destroyed.

The atmosphere of war, violence and terrorism in these decades has been a key factor in the waste of those human and economic resources, and I believe that all of us in the region have realized or must realize that peace and understanding among States are the only way to create a secure, stable and developed region.

In this context, we affirm that there is no stability in this region without the complete end of the plight of the Palestinian people and the restoration of their legitimate right to their state and to their national soil.

The international community is now more aware than ever of this as it follows the suffering of the Palestinians and the crimes being committed against them. It is the responsibility of this international community to act with a real and effective will to end this suffering and stop the heinous crimes being committed against the Palestinian people.

My wishes, ladies and gentlemen, for the success of your Conference and for the sincere efforts being made in favor of a sincere and productive regional dialog.

Peace, mercy and blessings of God shall be upon you."
