Director of the Iraqi Institute for Dialogue participates in the Iraqi-Syrian Think Tanks Forum in Baghdad

The director of the Iraqi Institute for Dialogue, Dr. Abbas Radi al-Amiri, participated in a forum that brought together Iraqi and Syrian think tanks in the capital Baghdad, as part of promoting informal regional dialogue between the two countries.

In his speech during the forum organized by the Iraqi Foreign Affairs Group, Dr. Al-Amiri stressed the importance of the role of think tanks in strengthening the democratic process in Iraq, noting that these centers are a vital source of research and advice that support the policymaking process in the country, especially in light of the challenges that Iraq is facing in various fields.

He stressed the need to encourage these centers to work closely with policymakers to ensure that policies are aligned with the national interest and promote regional stability.

The forum comes in the context of promoting Track II Diplomacy, which relies on dialogue between intellectual and academic elites and opinion makers, with the aim of creating a space for joint thinking and building parallel visions that may contribute to creating a supportive environment for official decision makers.

The forum discussed important regional issues such as the future of bilateral relations, security shifts, economic development challenges, the role of think tanks in providing alternatives to traditional policies and enhancing research cooperation between Iraq and Syria.

Participants emphasized the importance of informal encounters in fostering mutual understanding and building sustainable research collaboration networks.
