Na Borshchevskaya: Baghdad International Dialogue redraws the map of regional balances

Anna Borshchevskaya, a researcher at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said that the Baghdad International Dialogue Conference is an important platform through which Baghdad seeks to consolidate political neutrality and promote economic development, amid a general sense of uncertainty about the future of the country and the region.

Borshchevskaya said her main impression of the conference was that Iraq is trying hard to find a delicate balance in its relations with its neighbors and international partners, noting that the focus on development and neutrality sends a clear message that Baghdad wants to be a bridge for dialogue rather than an arena for conflicts.

She stressed the importance of the conference as "a vital forum that brings together a group of experts and decision-makers from inside and outside Iraq to discuss regional and global challenges," which strengthens Iraq's role as a regional actor that seeks stability, but still faces political, economic and security challenges that threaten this path.

The importance of the conference lies in the fact that it reflects Iraq's legitimate ambitions to rebalance its foreign relations, but at the same time it highlights the need for practical steps to face the current challenges, Borshchevskaya said.
