Issue of the double issue (83-84) of the magazine "Thought Dialog"
The double issue (83-84) of the journal "Thought Dialog", the quarterly magazine issued by the Iraqi Institute for Dialog, includes a set of studies and intellectual, political and legal research that deals with the transformations of the international system, the crises of the national state, and the environmental and political challenges facing Iraq and the region.
This issue, published in December 2025, is dedicated to analyzing structural issues in the international system and the Iraqi reality, through in-depth academic approaches that seek to link theoretical analysis with practical challenges.
The Transformations of the International System and the Rise of Chinese Globalization
Leading the issue is a paper entitled "The International System from Western Globalization to Chinese Globalization: Power and Impact Transformations" by M.D. Ali Hassan Huwaydi, who discusses the ongoing transformation of the international system from a liberal Western globalization model to an alternative Chinese one based on development, infrastructure, and multipolarity.
The research focuses on the Belt and Road Initiative as a central tool for reshaping global economic and strategic power balances, while analyzing China's hard and soft power tools and the challenges facing this path.
Crisis of trust between citizens and the state in Iraq
Sara Kareem's paper, "Trust between Citizens and State Institutions in Iraq," examines one of the most pressing problems in the Iraqi reality. It analyzes the causes of erosion of trust between citizens and the state, from the weak rule of law and the decline in the performance of representative and executive institutions, to security challenges and distorted transitional justice. The research concludes that restoring trust is possible, but it is conditional on serious political will and sustained structural reforms.
Climate change as a threat to national security
The issue also includes a study entitled "Iraq's Policies towards Climate Change: A Study in Dimensions, Priorities and Challenges" by researcher M.D. Firas Abbas Hashim highlights Iraq's vulnerability to the effects of climate change and its implications for water, food and environmental security. The research reviews Iraq's national policies and international commitments, against a host of structural challenges, calling for a comprehensive restructuring of climate policies and the promotion of water diplomacy and renewable energy.
Citizenship and Rebuilding Political Discourse
In the context of seeking exits to the political crisis, the M.D. Ali Murad Al-Nasrawi in his study "The Philosophy of Citizenship and the Future of the Iraqi State" The crisis of citizenship and national identity, and the impact of political sectarianism on the weakening of the state. The research presents a vision for rebuilding political discourse based on citizenship and social justice, away from quotas and sub-divisions.
Politics and International Contracts
The issue concludes with the research "Political Impacts on International Contracts: A Study in the Balance of Will and Power" by M.M. Osama Hassan Huwaidi, who examines the interplay of politics and law in international contracts, and the impact of sanctions and political tensions on contractual will, while making legal proposals to fortify contracts in a highly volatile international environment.
