Eighth Baghdad dialog kicks off

The activities of the 8th Baghdad Dialog Conference began on Friday, in the presence of Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, and with the participation of a number of officials, political figures, diplomacy and academia.

The conference, hosted by the capital Baghdad, will discuss a range of regional and international issues, as well as the political, security and economic challenges facing the region, and ways to enhance dialog and cooperation between its countries.

Abbas al-Ameri, director of the Iraqi Institute for Dialog, said in a speech during the 8th Baghdad Dialog Conference that "one hundred days is not enough to evaluate the work of the government," pointing out that "the region witnessed during this period vibrations and major developments reflected on the Iraqi scene."

And he added that "what happened during the last hundred days represents a founding stage," stressing that "the results of government work and strategic projects that are being worked on have not yet begun to appear in the required form."

Al-Ameri pointed to "the importance of moving from dealing with crises to building sustainable strategic partnerships, in a way that enhances Iraq's position and role in its regional and international environment."
