The Iraqi Institute for Dialog participates in a presidential symposium on the role of research centers in decision-making

The Iraqi Institute for Dialog, along with a group of heads and representatives of think tanks and studies centers, participated in a dialog symposium entitled "The role of research centers in decision-making," organized by the Research and Studies Department of the Presidency of the Republic, Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Baghdad Palace, under the patronage and in the presence of President Nizar Hamidi.

The seminar discussed mechanisms to strengthen the relationship between decision-makers and research institutions, and to involve think tanks in formulating government plans and programs, as well as benefiting from their studies and recommendations in developing public policies and facing security, political and economic challenges.

During the symposium, the President of the Republic stressed that the success of countries in facing challenges depends on knowledge, data analysis, future foresight and the study of alternatives, noting that research centers represent a link between thought, practice, academic experience and the needs of state institutions.

He stressed the need to support research centers, enhance their professional independence, review the legal and regulatory frameworks governing their work, and provide sustainable resources for them, in addition to expanding their cooperation with universities and government, national and international institutions.

The President of the Republic proposed that the symposium represent the nucleus for the establishment of a coalition of research centers under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic, which will transform ideas and studies into practical steps that can be implemented, which contributes to raising the level of government performance and reducing the risks of challenges facing the country.

The symposium witnessed the presentation of interventions and visions on the reality of research centers in Iraq, and ways to develop their performance and enhance their presence in the decision-making process, and expand channels of communication and cooperation between them and state institutions.
