World Religious Freedom Report 2009

This report is a comprehensive review of religious freedoms in Iraq for 2009, prepared by the Iraqi Institute for Dialog.

The text focuses on the contradiction between the democratic constitutional framework guaranteeing freedom of belief and religious practice, and the troubled security reality that has severely restricted these freedoms due to sectarian violence and terrorism.

"The report also looks at the country's religious demographics and highlights the gradual improvement in government efforts to restore security and support minorities, with continuing legal and political challenges affecting freedom of practice, especially for Mandaean Christians and Sabians."
